TEKNISKA MUSEET
MEGA MIND

Location: Stockholm
Year: 2013-2015

In 2013, AF-LA won the competition for a new Science Center at the Technical Museum. The permanent exhibition, Mega Mind, aimed at children aged three to fifteen, is designed to arouse curiosity about the brain and its processes.

Mega Mind has been designed to achieve maximum accessibility for all visitors: big, small, and those with disabilities. The two halves of the brain have been given physical form in the main exhibition: one rigid and orderly, the other soft and organic. Through the overall design and a large number of interactive stations, visitors' interest and curiosity about all parts and processes of the brain are awakened.

AF-LA has shaped both the adaptation of the premises and the exhibition stations, working closely with the museum's curators and educators to develop the content of the stations. On several occasions, we have engaged with different focus groups to present our ideas and follow the development of these in dialogue.

In 2016, the museum received the distinction of Museum of the Year, awarded by the Swedish ICOM and the National Association of Swedish Museums. As the first Swedish museum ever, the museum also received the Children in Museums Award in 2017 for its accessibility work in Mega Mind.
