Name: TEKNISKA MUSEET - NYTT SCIENCE CENTER

LOCATION: GÄRDET, STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN

AREA: 2.000 sqm

COMPLETION YEAR: 2015

CLIENT: Tekniska museet

The office recently won a competition for a new Science center for the Museum of technical sciences in Stockholm. The competition entry envisioned a fun and inspiring environment meant to arouse curiosity and the will to explore and learn more about the brain and its processes. The space is conceptually conceived as the two hemispheres of the brain and brought into physical form through two very different main exhibition volumes - one strict and logical and the other soft, flowing and in constant flux. The project is ongoing and will open in early 2015.

We have completed a new concept for the swedish fashion brand HOPE. The aim was to create an inspiring environment expressing HOPE aesthetics. We started by questioning  key functions from the traditional retail environment,  such as the till point and the changing rooms. Part of the brief was to create a mobile and flexible furniture system which is easy to mount and easy to remove, reflecting the urban nomad needs of today. Raw materials like ceramic tiles, concrete floor, minerit, reinforced glass, textile, iron profiles and solid ash with acid varnish treatment interact in unusual manners with a love for details.

This project is done for the leading pan-European multi-brand bathroom ceramics specialist - Sanitec. We designed two of their offices one in Stockholm and the other one in Düsseldorf. To reflect Sanitec's diversity and to create a timeless elegance with innovative details and sculptural lightning we chose a mix of furniture from different designers (mostly Swedish, Finnish and French). The aim of the project was to express a modern environment, a strong interest in design with form secure interior, with natural materials and a good and pleasant lightning. Employees should feel proud of their work space and visitors should remember their visit.

Study for Bahnhof AB. The creation of a new server hall and concert hall combines a public and a private program in Ferdinand Boberg's beautiful gasholder, Gasklocka 1, from 1893. The extrernal structure is left entirely untouched and the new programs are fitted inside with its own loadbearing structure. A slit in the inserted structure allows for the full drama of the height, the existing structure and the glas floor concert hall at the top to be experienced directly from the entrance. Competition entry for an adaptable system of pavilions, meant to be used for many different types of programs throughout the city. The basic module is a faceted 8 sqm structure inspired by the huge blocks of stone that were moved about by the inland ice and can now be found scattered all over the swedish landscape. Thanks to the asymmetrical facets immense diversity can be achieved when several modules are combined into a larger structure, even though just one module is repeated and rotated.

Private house in Mälaren archipelago on two storeys. The house is conceived after a careful analyze of the site, the hybrid form develops two privileged views: one on the left towards the sea shielding of the neighboring house, and one towards the plot and the unbuilt surrounding. The flow of movement inside the house is one of the focuses in the conception. The main challenge has been to design a house with character still following the strong conservative rules imposed by the municipality regarding form and size.

The starting point was to create a strong contrast between the public part of the apartment (living room dining room) reinforced the 19 th century architecture, and a radically modern private half which is super practical and offers a large amount of storage space. The circulation through the apartment is achieved through a light blue laminate corridor where each panel is either a door either the front of a storage space.

Europan is a competition proposing different sites through Europe for architects under 40 years old. We chose the Upplands Väsby site because of the dynamic generated by the railway going through the site and because of the ambition of the Municipality. The program combined a new travel centre, a bus station and a large amount of residential buildings (55.000 square meter containing 740 units in our proposal). We articulated the project around three key words Rhythm, Flow and Density.

COMPLETION YEAR: 2002

CLIENT:

A new Sauna on the left and four new rooms in the backside of the house towards north. The existing house from the 50's was totally remodelled and the interior is now a large opened space. We used the slope of the plot to place the extension one meter lower than the existing in order to create new windows on the north facade of the house and in order to keep the fasad towards south untouched. Except for the kitchen which gets a larger area and a wide window responding to the window from the sauna, both pointing towards the sea. Sandhamn is a very protected island and the remodeling doesn't compete with the original house and respects its soul.
